Alaska Represented at the Rush Summit
Alaska Rush Techinical Director, Jason Leonardis, and Director of Coaching, Michael Montgomery, represented our state at the 2012 Rush Summit in Raleigh, North Carolina Jan 19-21, 2011. There were coaches from 24 different States along with coaches from Africa.
Over the 3 days they visited Eurosport Facilities, received 20 hours of coaching instruction and made many new coaching friends from all over the world. On Saturday morning after two field sessions run by Tim Schultz and Eric Bushey the coaches were split into 4 teams. After 3 spirited round robin games on very muddy fields, the team Jason and Mike played on made it to the c
hampionship game. With the game tied 1-1 the game went to penalty kicks. After 5 players from each team shot the score was tied 2-2.
It then went to sudden victory. The first two players from each team missed. It all came down to the 3rd players to take the PK. The other team player missed so Alaska Rush coach Michael Montgomery stepped up to take the PK and calmly hit the winning goal. Adminittedly, ther team did have a two former pros on the roster, but Montgomery said, "Alaska Rush showed well."
